Signals through the ash
Signals Through the Ash is a solemn musical chronicle of peace, memory, loss and reconstruction, set within a valley that endures war and learns, in time, to breathe once more. Its purpose is to honour the truth that peace is not the absence of remembrance, but the noble refusal to turn suffering into hatred.
A spoken medieval prologue which opens the album and presents the valley, its people, the coming of war, the weight of loss and the memory that will pass through every song.
Lyrics
There was once a valley so still that, at morn, one could hear the hearth-fire burning in the great hall, and bread being broken at the table by peaceful families.
In those days, Smoke Over the Valley spake not of ruin.
It spake of houses yet living.
Of children wakened by the light.
Of neighbours who still knew one another by name.
Yet peace is but a fragile roof when the world begins to sharpen its iron.
And so Iron Without Hate was raised.
Not for conquest.
Not for glory.
But that the door should not be broken, and the children might yet sleep one more night.
Then came the sirens.
And the Children of the Siren learned fear ere they had words with which to name it.
Mothers stood within their doorways, with names caught fast within their throats, for No Flag Can Hold a Mother’s Cry.
No crown could soften it.
No border could command it.
No hymn of war could make it holy.
Beyond the houses, where human lives had been made into numbers, The Machine Forgot the Children and called it order.
But Ashes Don’t Pray for War.
Ashes remember only what the fire once warmed, before the world began to burn.
Then came the nights when even cathedrals were no refuge from war.
Cathedral Breaks were not merely fractured sounds.
They were the place where human prayers broke beneath fear…
and rose again.
They asked not for glory.
They asked that men might come home.
They asked that mothers might no longer listen for footsteps that would never reach the door.
They asked that every child might grow without trembling at the sound of the sky.
Some returned from the road with dust in their eyes and a heavy silence in the soul.
Others returned no more.
Yet their names continued to walk beside the living.
The Last Human Signal was not victory.
It was the cry of those who rejoiced that peace had returned…
and, in that very same breath,
mourned those who had brought it back at the cost of their lives.
And when peace came, it came not unmarked.
It came with Hands Open, Teeth Closed.
With houses raised over sorrow.
With smiles that yet trembled.
With people learning, slowly, how to live without becoming what had wounded them.
And still, the fires were lit again.
Roofs were raised.
Children were rocked unto sleep.
Songs returned to weddings.
Bread was placed upon the table.
They did not leave the dead behind.
They bore them onward in songs.
In walls.
In the names of children.
In every light kindled at evening.
And so, through all the ash,
through every silence,
through every rebuilt door,
their memory continued to send Signals Through the Ash unto the living.
A portrait of peace before the breaking of the world: living homes, gentle fires, children in open fields, bread upon the table and a valley where smoke means home, not ruin.
Lyrics
[Intro]
Smoke over the valley,
soft as morning light.
The fires are waking gently,
and the hills are still tonight.
[Verse 1]
The old homes breathe in silence,
with bread and wood and flame.
Children run through open fields,
calling each other’s name.
The river keeps its silver path,
the bells are low and clear.
No shadow comes to break the day,
no heart is held by fear.
[Pre-Chorus]
And if the world grows cold outside,
let this small fire remain.
A place where hands can gather close,
and peace can rise again.
[Chorus]
Smoke over the valley,
not from sorrow, not from war.
Only hearths that burn in kindness,
only homes with open doors.
Smoke over the valley,
may the quiet never cease.
Where the children laugh at sunrise,
there is still a road to peace.
[Verse 2]
The mothers light the evening lamps,
the fathers mend the gate.
The elders speak of older days,
and teach the young to wait.
A flute is heard beyond the trees,
a song both old and mild.
It carries through the rooftops low,
and blesses every child.
[Pre-Chorus]
And if the night should gather near,
we will not answer with pain.
We keep the flame, we keep the bread,
we keep the gentle name.
[Chorus]
Smoke over the valley,
not from sorrow, not from war.
Only hearths that burn in kindness,
only homes with open doors.
Smoke over the valley,
may the quiet never cease.
Where the children laugh at sunrise,
there is still a road to peace.
A song of defence without hatred, in which iron is raised not for conquest or glory, but to protect the valley, its children and the quiet that may yet be preserved.
Lyrics
[Intro]
Iron in the morning,
but no hatred in the hand.
We rise to keep the valley,
not to burn another land.
[Verse 1]
The fires still are gentle,
the bread steams on the board.
Beyond the sleeping mountain,
the world forgets its word.
The bells are low and steady,
the children still run free.
We guard the open doorway,
and all that ought to be.
[Pre-Chorus]
If darkness comes with iron teeth,
we shall not answer blind.
We hold the line with open eyes,
and keep the heart still kind.
[Chorus]
Iron without hate,
strength with a blade.
We do not call the storm,
but we stand in its way.
Iron without hate,
fire to guard the flame.
We do not long for blood or war,
but we will not turn away.
[Verse 2]
The elders speak in silence,
their hands remember stone.
They teach us how to carry
a weight that is our own.
The flute still knows the valley,
the guitar bears the sky.
And every drum that rises
says peace shall not die.
[Pre-Chorus]
If fear should call us into rage,
we shall not take its name.
We keep the house, we keep the bread,
we keep the tender flame.
[Chorus]
Iron without hate,
strength with a blade.
We do not call the storm,
but we stand in its way.
Iron without hate,
fire to guard the flame.
We do not long for blood or war,
but we will not turn away.
[Outro]
We stand for what is living,
for the children safe at rest.
For bread, for home, for open doors,
we hold the valley’s breath.
The moment in which sirens enter the world of children and innocence is interrupted by fear. It stands as a prayer that terror shall not become their inheritance.
Lyrics
[Intro]
Sirens over the hill,
cutting through the sky.
Children wake unsettled,
too young to understand why.
Smoke above the valley,
cold upon the light.
The morning does not open,
it shivers into night.
[Verse 1]
Children of the siren,
small hands at the door.
They hear the warning rising
where peace had lived before.
The bread is on the table,
the fire is burning low.
Yet through each quiet window
the darker tidings grow.
The anvil strikes in sorrow,
again, again, again.
Fathers leave the morning fields
to guard the hearts within.
[Pre-Chorus]
Not for hatred,
not for pride.
Only for the ones
who hide inside.
Not for conquest,
not for pain.
Only so the peace
can breathe again.
[Chorus]
Children of the siren,
do not lose the dawn.
You were made for morning,
not for fear alone.
Children of the siren,
keep your hearts alive.
Let the mountain flute
cut through the night.
[Verse 2]
The fields lie pale and open,
but no one walks them now.
The plough rests by the doorway,
with daylight on its brow.
Gentle hands grow heavy,
yet they do not turn to stone.
They carry iron only
to bring the children home.
No one dreams of glory,
no one blesses blood.
They speak in broken whispers
of mercy, bread, and wood.
[Bridge]
Keep the bread.
Keep the flame.
Keep the door.
Keep the name.
Let no shadow
own your breath.
Let no siren
teach you death.
[Final Chorus]
Children of the siren,
do not lose the dawn.
You were made for morning,
not for fear alone.
Children of the siren,
may your souls stay clear.
May the hands that guard you
never teach you fear.
Children of the siren,
when the dark is through,
may the valley still be breathing
soft and warm for you.
[Outro]
Sirens over the hill,
sirens over the hill,
cutting through the sky.
Children wake unsettled,
too young to understand why.
Smoke above the valley,
cold upon the light.
The morning does not open,
it shivers into night.
A mother’s grief set beyond banners, borders and the language of war. No symbol of power can contain the cry of one who waits at the door.
Lyrics
[Intro]
No flag can hold a mother’s cry.
No border can command her grief.
When bells and sirens tear the sky,
her silence stands beyond belief.
[Verse 1]
She does not ask who drew the line,
nor whose decree has claimed the sky.
She holds a coat, she holds a sign,
she holds the last unanswered why.
The fields are dark, the roads are wide,
the warning shakes from hill to hill.
And every home may lose its pride:
a child, a husband, standing still.
[Pre-Chorus]
Though earth may shake and steel may rise,
her grief will never kneel to glory.
No flag can hold a mother’s cry.
No hymn of war can bless the night.
Even silent, through smoke and iron,
she tears the darkness from the light.
[Verse 2]
She lights a candle by the door,
when he must leave to guard the land.
The bread grows cold upon the board,
the house still waits for his hand.
She does not curse another son.
She does not pray for blood or flame.
She asks the world, when rage is done,
to learn again the human name.
[Pre-Chorus]
Not for vengeance,
not for pain.
Not for ashes
raised again.
Not for shattered,
not for pride.
Only for the tears
no flag can hide.
[Chorus]
No flag can hold a mother’s cry.
No crown can make her silence holy.
Though earth may shake and steel may rise,
her grief will never kneel to glory.
No flag can hold a mother’s cry.
No hymn of war can bless the night.
Even silent, through smoke and iron,
she tears the darkness from the light.
[Bridge]
Let every banner fall to dust
before a mother’s silent prayer.
Let every sword remember rust
when met by such an empty stare.
Keep the bread.
Keep the name.
Keep the door.
Refuse the flame.
Let no child
be born to die.
Let no flag
outlive the cry.
[Final Chorus]
No flag can hold a mother’s cry.
No crown can make her silence holy.
Though earth may shake and steel may rise,
her grief will never kneel to glory.
No flag can hold a mother’s cry.
No hymn of war can bless the night.
Even silent, through smoke and iron,
she tears the darkness from the light.
[Outro]
No flag can hold a mother’s cry.
No border can command her grief.
When he goes forth to guard the valley,
her silence stands beyond belief.
A meditation on the dehumanising machinery of war, where systems, orders and instruments of power turn human lives into numbers and forget those most deserving of protection.
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
The machine did not hate.
It did not need a soul.
It learned the weight of iron,
then crushed the living small.
Name erased.
Door sealed.
Small hands.
Cold steel.
File signed.
Light gone.
Child waits.
System on.
[Pre-Chorus]
Forgot the children.
[Chorus]
The machine forgot the children.
It fed them to the wall.
It signed their names in silence
and called the murder law.
Forgot the children.
[Verse 2]
A coat left by the doorway.
A cup beside the bed.
A room still warm with breathing
where no one turned their head.
No one stopped the paper.
No one broke the line.
A child became a number
inside a perfect sign.
A number.
[Chorus]
The machine forgot the children.
It buried mercy deep.
It kept the shape of power
and taught the weak to sleep.
Forgot the children.
[Bridge]
Break the circuit.
Cut the wire.
Pull the child
out of fire.
Stop the order.
Burn the claim.
Give the nameless
back their name.
Back their name.
[Final Chorus]
The machine forgot the children.
Let the wires hear the blame.
No future can be holy
while children lose their name.
The machine forgot the children.
Let the silence split in two.
No law can wash the darkness
from what it chose to do.
Forgot the children.
After destruction, the ash does not ask for vengeance. It remembers homes, fires and lives once held dear, and becomes a witness against the continuation of hatred.
Lyrics
[Verse 1]
The house still glows.
One chair.
One coat.
The night does not move.
A road keeps names
under dust.
The valley breathes,
but differently.
[Pre-Chorus]
No crown.
No pride.
No holy lie.
Smoke.
Only smoke.
Against the sky.
[Chorus]
We do not pray for war.
We do not call the blade.
We carry loss
through iron,
through smoke,
through silence.
We do not bless the flame.
We hold the fallen.
We speak their names again.
[Verse 2]
Sirens.
Morning split.
Glass shook.
The fields went cold.
Iron entered.
Hands remembered.
Eyes changed.
Some returned.
Some did not.
[Pre-Chorus]
Still,
we breathe.
Still,
we stand.
Broken hearts.
Open hands.
[Chorus]
We do not pray for war.
We do not call the blade.
We carry loss
through iron,
through smoke,
through silence.
We do not bless the flame.
We hold the fallen.
We speak their names again.
[Bridge]
Dawn.
Stone.
Road.
Home.
Night.
Silence.
Light.
Return.
[Final Chorus]
We do not pray for war.
We do not call the blade.
We carry loss
through iron,
through smoke,
through silence.
We do not bless the flame.
We hold the fallen.
We speak their names again.
[Final Accent]
Ashes don't pray for war.
A collective prayer within a sacred place no longer able to shelter sorrow entirely. The people ask for the return of those who left, for the sleep of children and for peace to find the valley again.
Lyrics
[Intro]
Together, we wait.
Under bells, we kneel.
[Verse 1]
The bells say peace.
But the door stays open.
Count the empty chairs.
Count the coats by the door.
The valley is breathing,
but not like before.
[Verse 2]
Bring the men home.
Let the children sleep.
Let the mothers rest
without listening for steps.
Let the roads open.
Let the smoke rise.
Let the fields remember
bread, not war.
[Bridge]
Not for glory.
Not for pride.
Not for flags.
Not for fire.
Only for peace.
Only for home.
Only for names
not left alone.
[Verse 3]
Let them come back.
Let them come back.
If the road still knows their feet.
Let the children grow in quiet.
[Final]
Peace, come down.
Find the valley again.
Find the children happy.
Find the fathers home.
Find the houses with light.
Let war end.
Let peace return.
Let the valley breathe.
[Outro]
Let the valley breathe in peace.
The return of the survivors and the first sign that humanity has not been lost. The final signal is not victory, but the voice of those who can still grieve, breathe and love.
Lyrics
[Intro]
The Last Human Signal.
[Verse 1]
We have come back.
We still breathe.
Some are wounded.
Some still bleed.
No bright banners.
No clean crown.
War had raised us
and struck us down.
[Chorus]
Hear.
Breathe.
Rise.
Again.
Life has answered
through the pain.
Not in glory.
Not in fame.
Only voices
calling names.
[Verse 2]
Some return
with broken skin.
Some return
with war within.
Some are missing
from the road.
Some are names
the living hold.
Houses tremble
like a dream
they no longer
know how to live.
Peace is standing
at the door,
but none return
as they were before.
[Bridge]
Not the crown.
Not the pride.
Not the flags
men die beside.
War has no
holy flame.
Only loss
that learns your name.
[Final Chorus]
Hear.
Breathe.
Rise.
Again.
Life has answered
through the pain.
Some came wounded.
Some stayed gone.
Still the valley
hears the dawn.
No throne.
No lie.
No glory
in the sky.
Only breath.
Only rain.
Only voices
home again.
[Outro]
The Last Human Signal.
Peace returns, yet the body still remembers war. The people embrace, shake hands, rebuild and choose life, even while fear has not wholly left them.
Lyrics
[Intro]
Hands
Open
Hands
Open
[Chorus]
Hands open,
teeth still closed,
we stand in storms
that no one knows.
Hands open,
through blood and flame,
we hold our ground
and call our name.
[Chorus]
Hands open,
teeth still closed,
we stand in storms
that no one knows.
Hands open,
through blood and flame,
we hold our ground
and call our name.
[Verse 1]
Morning bleeds into rubble,
ashen light on shattered stone.
Voices rise through smoke and sorrow:
You are not alone.
Sirens fade,
but not the sound.
Every scar
keeps us to the ground.
[Chorus]
Hands open,
teeth still closed,
we stand in storms
that no one knows.
Hands open,
through blood and flame,
we hold our ground
and call our name.
[Verse 2]
We move through the fractured city,
steel and smoke beneath the sun.
Every shadow keeps a memory
of the days we used to run.
We face the pain within us,
not to break and not to bend.
We refuse to drown in anger,
we turn the fury into strength.
[Bridge]
We are forged in wreckage.
Still, we are not born to fall.
We are more than fractures.
Still, we rise above the wall.
Fire shakes the steel around us,
but the blaze ignites within.
So we turn our fear to courage
and let the battle breathe again.
[Verse 3]
Sirens fade to distant murmurs,
streets are cracked but life returns.
Laughter cuts through choking silence,
small and rough, but how it burns.
We are scarred,
but still relentless.
We are bruised,
but not the grave.
When the dark calls out to break us,
we answer back:
We won’t obey.
[Final Chorus]
Hands open,
teeth still closed,
we stand in storms
that no one knows.
Hands open,
through blood and flame,
we hold our ground
and call our name.
[Final Chorus]
Hands open,
hearts still torn,
we walk the edge
of worlds reborn.
Hands open,
through hate and rain,
we carry the scars,
but choose to remain.
[Outro]
Hands open.
Teeth still closed.
In the heart of all this fire,
we swear we won’t let go.
The concluding statement of the journey, where the memory of the fallen becomes light, signal and summons for the living. The valley does not forget, but it learns to live again.
Lyrics
[Intro]
Signals through the ash,
bright above the valley.
Signals through the ash,
calling us home.
We
do
not
forget
them.
We
do
not
leave
them.
Their memory walks with us.
We are
not alone.
Come!
Dance with us!
[Chorus]
Newborn voices fill the houses,
wedding songs return to air.
Hands that once held fear and iron
now lift flowers, wood, and prayer.
Children run where smoke had fallen,
laughter rises from the lane.
Not because the past has vanished,
but because we live again.
We do not turn to hatred.
We do not kneel to pain.
We carry all our fallen,
and light the hearth again.
[Chorus]
Signals through the ash,
bright above the valley.
Signals through the ash,
calling us home.
We do not forget them.
We do not leave them.
Their memory walks with us.
We are not alone.
Come!
Celebrate with us!
[Chorus]
Stone by stone,
name by name,
we raise the roofs
and guard the flame.
Bell by bell,
light by light,
we bring the valley
back to life.
[Chorus]
Through the ash, the road is waking,
over stone and open ground.
Morning climbs the broken rooftops,
life returns without a crown.
Hands are building, doors are opening,
bread is warm where silence lay.
Every scar becomes a window,
every name becomes a way.
We do not rise for glory.
We do not sing for war.
We carry what was taken,
and still we build once more.
Hey!
Hey!
Hey!
Hey!
[Chorus]
Signals through the ash,
life above the sorrow.
Signals through the ash,
morning has grown.
For every house we build,
for every child still laughing,
for every song returning,
our heroes still live on.
[Chorus]
Signals through the ash,
bright above the valley.
Signals through the ash,
calling us home.
We do not forget them.
We do not leave them.
Their memory walks with us.
We are not alone.
[Chorus]
Through the ash, the bells are ringing,
over roofs and fields of grain.
Peace is not forgetting.
Peace is choosing life again.
Hey!
An evening prayer of gratitude for those who brought peace back. The album closes in quietness, with the image of a valley breathing once more and a memory that remains gently alight.
Lyrics
As I kneel beside my bed this night,
I would give thanks.
Thank you for the morn
that waits beyond my window.
Thank you for the quiet
that lets me sleep.
Thank you for the hearth-fire
burning softly in the hall.
Thank you for the bread
broken at the table without fear.
I do not know all the roads you walked.
I do not know how dark the night became.
I do not know how sorely you longed for home.
But I know that I may wake in peace.
Some of you returned.
Some of you remained in songs,
in walls,
and in the evening light.
But we remember you.
We remember you when we play.
We remember you when we laugh.
We remember you when the fire burns low
and the house is safe.
The story bears a name:
Signals Through the Ash.
Signals Through the Ash.
For even after sorrow,
something of you still reaches us.
Like a little light.
Like a quiet bell.
Like a hand we cannot see,
yet still can feel.
So tonight,
before we sleep,
thank you for bringing peace again.
Thank you for letting the valley breathe once more.
And if the night grows dark,
let us remember
that hatred is not the way home.
